Wes Streeting: Ignore Trump’s Medical Claims, Britons Urged – UK Politics Live
Wes Streeting, the UK’s Health Secretary, has urged pregnant women to disregard claims made by former President Donald Trump about a supposed link between paracetamol use during pregnancy and autism. During an appearance on ITV’s Lorraine, Streeting emphasized that there is no scientific evidence supporting these allegations, referencing a comprehensive study conducted in Sweden that involved 2.4 million children, which found no correlation.
Streeting said, “I trust doctors over President Trump” and recommended that the public listen to British medical professionals rather than political figures. He acknowledged the importance of questioning health information but insisted that medical science should guide decisions around medication.
The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) also reiterated that there is no evidence linking paracetamol to autism, stating that the drug remains the recommended pain relief for pregnant women. MHRA Chief Safety Officer Dr. Alison Cave emphasized patient safety and advised that managing pain with recommended treatments is crucial.
Streeting’s comments come amid growing skepticism towards medical guidance, highlighting the need to rely on established scientific evidence over non-expert opinions.
