Liberal candidate Gisele Kapterian has conceded defeat in the Bradfield electorate after a protracted review of the federal election results, which she initially contested. Kapterian, who lost to independent Nicolette Boele, stated she was satisfied with the outcome declared after a thorough ballot review. This loss marks a significant shift in Bradfield, a seat held by the Liberal Party since its inception in 1949.

The election counting process was tumultuous, with Boele initially leading by 40 votes before Kapterian briefly took a narrow lead. Following a recount ordered by the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC), Boele was ultimately declared the winner by a margin of 26 votes.

Kapterian had petitioned the High Court, alleging that 56 of her votes were wrongly rejected while 95 of Boele’s votes were improperly accepted. She acknowledged that despite numerous challenges presented, it was unlikely that the results could be overturned.

In her statement, Kapterian expressed disappointment in missing the opportunity to contribute from within the party but pledged to continue advocating for issues facing Australians. Boele welcomed the integrity of the electoral process and committed to serving her constituents responsibly.

Electoral Commissioner Jeff Pope emphasized the thoroughness of the AEC’s scrutiny during the election, instilling confidence in Australia’s electoral integrity.
