Denmark’s Aalborg airport was closed on Wednesday after multiple drone sightings in the area, following similar incidents at Copenhagen’s airport earlier in the week. The Danish police reported that these occurrences have disrupted military operations and are under investigation, although the identity of the drones’ operators remains unconfirmed. Concerns about potential systematic incursions have been echoed by Danish Defence Minister Troels Lund Poulsen, who characterized the events as indicative of a “hybrid attack,” while maintaining that Denmark does not face a direct military threat.

This situation mirrors recent drone incursions across several European nations. Notably, Poland took action against Russian drones entering its airspace during a military operation targeting Ukraine, leading to temporary airport closures. Romania has also noted falling debris from Russian drones, while Estonia reported airspace violations by Russian aircraft. NATO has responded with defensive measures, stating these incursions pose significant risks.

Amid escalating tensions, Ukrainian officials suggest that these actions by Russia are deliberate provocations testing NATO’s boundaries. Russia has denied the allegations, asserting its military operations are focused solely within Ukrainian territory. In response, European defense ministers plan to convene to discuss enhanced protection against such drone threats.
