Drones have been spotted near Denmark’s largest military facility, Karup airbase, leading to temporary airspace closures this week due to safety concerns. On Thursday, the incursions, which spanned several hours, prompted the Danish authorities to label the activity a “hybrid attack,” though they found no evidence linking these incidents to Russia. Confirming the sightings, the Danish Defence Ministry indicated that multiple military installations were affected, but specific locations were not disclosed.

Earlier disruptions involved drones over Danish airports, including Aalborg and Billund, which also temporarily ceased operations. Similar drone sightings were reported in Norway and Germany, raising questions about potential security threats. The incidents have fueled suspicions of a possible Russian strategy aimed at destabilizing NATO member states, although no direct connection has been confirmed.

Denmark’s Defence Minister described the attacks as the work of a “professional actor,” suggesting local coordination rather than foreign orchestration. The Russian embassy dismissed allegations of involvement, referring to them as “absurd speculations”. Concurrently, security concerns across Europe have increased, with similar drone activities reported in other NATO countries, leading to heightened vigilance regarding airspace security.
