Australia Live News: Albanese Meets King Charles; Lions Fans Celebrate Back-to-Back AFL Flags

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese recently met with King Charles at Balmoral Castle, describing the invitation as a personal and national honor. In an interview with David Speers on ABC Insiders, Albanese declined to share specific details about their discussion, stating they spoke generally about world affairs during a “wonderful lunch.” He emphasized his respect for the protocols governing such conversations.

Albanese ruled out holding a referendum on Australia becoming a republic, asserting that his government will focus on addressing cost-of-living issues and making meaningful improvements to citizens’ lives. The Prime Minister also spoke about his positive interactions with U.S. President Donald Trump, highlighting a “warm” relationship despite differing worldviews.

This meeting with King Charles was part of Albanese’s diplomatic engagements during his UK visit, which included addressing the UN. He had previously met the King during significant events such as the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II and the King’s coronation. Albanese, accompanied by his partner Jodie Haydon, gifted the King a framed photo from his visit to Australia with Queen Camilla in October 2024.
