Deadly Russian Drone and Missile Strike Hits Kyiv, Ukraine: Casualties Reported
On September 28, 2025, Russia launched a significant drone and missile attack on Ukraine, marking one of the most extensive assaults on the capital, Kyiv, since the onset of the war. Reports indicate that at least nine individuals were injured during the strikes, which prompted air raid alerts across various regions, including Kyiv. Many residents sought shelter in metro stations as the attacks persisted.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha noted that hundreds of drones and missiles were fired overnight, resulting in damage to residential buildings and civilian casualties. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko urged residents to remain sheltered, confirming five people were hospitalized due to the strikes.
An independent monitor characterized the attack as one of the most substantial faced by Kyiv and its surroundings since the conflict escalated. In the southeastern Zaporizhia region, at least four additional people were reported injured from Russian strikes, with local officials condemning the targeting of civilian infrastructure.
In response to the escalating threats, Poland’s military scrambled jets and heightened air defense systems in its southeastern regions as a precautionary measure. Officials emphasized the need for stronger international economic measures against Russia in the wake of these attacks.
