Hamas Urges Israel to Halt Gaza City Attacks, Citing Risk to Captives’ Lives
Israeli tanks are advancing in the Tal al-Hawa and Sabra neighborhoods of Gaza City amid ongoing ground operations. Hamas has issued a warning regarding the safety of two captives, Omri Miran and Matan Angrest, indicating that contact has been lost with their captors during intensified military actions. The Qassam Brigades called for Israeli forces to withdraw and halt airstrikes for 24 hours to facilitate efforts to rescue the prisoners.
Amidst the conflict, which has left over 66,000 Palestinians dead since its onset in October 2023, calls for a ceasefire continue. The political wing of Hamas stated it has not received any new ceasefire proposals from Qatar or Egypt, despite U.S. President Donald Trump’s predictions of an imminent agreement. Israeli officials, particularly from the far-right coalition, oppose any peace plans that do not address Hamas’s role.
As the conflict escalates, reports indicate that the death toll includes recent casualties from bombardments, notably a child in Sabra. The al-Shifa Hospital, once the largest medical complex in Gaza, is largely in ruins, yet remains operational for displaced individuals seeking refuge. Hospital director Muhammad Abu Salmiya emphasized the commitment of medical staff to continue services as long as possible under dire circumstances.
