Dallas Shooter Aimed at ICE Facility, Accidentally Strikes Detainees
On Wednesday, a shooting at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Dallas resulted in the death of one detainee and critical injuries to two others. The suspected gunman, identified as 29-year-old Joshua Jahn from Fairview, Texas, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Notes discovered at his residence reveal he intended to target ICE personnel specifically, aiming to inflict maximum harm on agents while minimizing collateral damage to detainees.
Acting U.S. Attorney Nancy Larson stated that Jahn’s writings indicated a high degree of pre-planning, describing his motive as an act of terrorism aimed at instilling fear in ICE employees. FBI officials noted that Jahn used apps to track ICE officers and had intended to shoot at transport vehicles carrying both personnel and detainees.
Though no law enforcement officials were harmed, the incident has highlighted rising tensions surrounding ICE operations, particularly amid recent governmental pressures to increase deportations. Larson emphasized the bravery of federal agents who worked to secure the safety of detainees during the attack. The investigation continues as authorities work to uncover any further motives behind Jahn’s actions.
