India Triumphs Over Sri Lanka in Super Over Ahead of 2025 Asia Cup Final
In the final Super Fours match of the Asia Cup, defending champions India edged past Sri Lanka in a thrilling encounter that ended in a Super Over. Despite the match being of academic interest, as India had already qualified for the final against Pakistan, it showcased intense competition. India set a robust total of 202-5, driven by opener Abhishek Sharma, who scored 61 runs off 31 balls. His performance marked his third consecutive fifty of the tournament, despite early setbacks with key players falling cheaply.
Sri Lanka responded fiercely, with Pathum Nissanka scoring the tournament’s first century, reaching 107 runs. However, they struggled initially, losing Kusal Mendis for a duck and recovering to match India’s score, finishing at 202-5 as well, thus initiating a Super Over.
In the Super Over, Sri Lanka managed only two runs, losing two wickets against Arshdeep Singh’s bowling. India then secured victory as Suryakumar Yadav hit three runs off the first ball bowled by Wanindu Hasaranga. The win allowed India to maintain an unbeaten streak in the tournament ahead of their upcoming final against Pakistan.
