Kyiv Faces Massive Russian Attack, Reports Mayor
A significant drone assault by Russia on Ukraine’s capital has resulted in at least four fatalities and a minimum of 27 injuries, according to Ukrainian authorities. Multiple regions, including Zaporizhzhia, were targeted overnight, with reports indicating that 16 people, including three children, sustained injuries there. Ukraine’s Foreign Minister stated that the recent wave of attacks employed hundreds of drones and missiles, while Russia has yet to comment on these developments.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky cautioned that Russia’s ambitions extend beyond Ukraine, noting recent tests of European air defenses. He emphasized that Russian President Vladimir Putin is unlikely to cease hostilities in Ukraine, potentially prompting further military actions.
In response to the attacks, military jets in neighboring Poland were deployed, echoing a pattern of increased vigilance among NATO forces following encounters involving Russian drones. Meanwhile, Denmark indicated incursions over its airports, attributing the events to a “professional actor” without naming specifics. Estonia has also accused Russia of breaching its airspace.
During a recent UN General Assembly speech, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov asserted that Russia does not intend to attack EU or NATO member states but threatened a “decisive response” to any perceived aggression toward Moscow.
