Netanyahu Stresses Need to “Finish the Job” in Gaza at UN, Sparks Delegate Walkouts – Live Updates

During a speech at the United Nations General Assembly, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu asserted that Israel must complete its military operations in Gaza swiftly, claiming that the “final remnants of Hamas” are concentrated in Gaza City. Speaking through loudspeakers directed toward Gaza, he urged Hamas to release hostages, warning that those who resist will be hunted down. His remarks were met with significant dissent, as over 100 diplomats from more than 50 countries walked out in protest.

Netanyahu criticized the recent recognition of a Palestinian state by several Western nations, labeling such actions as “insane” and suggesting they send a dangerous message to extremists. He emphasized the refusal of his government to entertain a two-state solution, stating that doing so would equate to granting a state to those who harm Israel.

In an unusual move, Netanyahu’s speech was broadcast into Gaza using Israeli military loudspeakers and reportedly aimed to reach mobile phones in the area, though the extent of this operation remains unclear. Additionally, Netanyahu condemned Iran’s potential nuclear capabilities, urging the international community to reimpose sanctions. The UN is set to reinstate sanctions against Iran amid concerns over its nuclear program, further heightening geopolitical tensions.
