Sky News Australia Staffer Accused of Staging Bacon Incident During Controversial Anti-Islam Interview
Sky News Australia faced backlash after an offensive live interview featuring UK-based influencer Ryan Williams, who made inflammatory remarks against Islam. During the segment on the program “Freya Fires Up,” Williams declared he had “enough balls to fight Islam” while a staff member rearranged bacon on his shirt, a prop he claimed was for protection against threats of beheading.
Following the broadcast, Sky News issued an apology, stating it would review the program and its guest vetting procedures. Although they claimed immediate action was taken to cut off the guest, a newly surfaced video shows Williams explicitly discussing anti-Islam views before the interview.
Sky News emphasized that the staff liaison who interacted with Williams was unaware of his background and had no role in booking guests. They acknowledged the incident as a failure in their editorial process and reaffirmed their commitment to responsible content.
Host Freya Leach, who introduced Williams as a “social media sensation,” later apologized on-air. Leach, known for her conservative views, has faced scrutiny but has not been suspended. The network is reviewing its editorial standards after admitting that such rhetoric has no place in their programming.
