US Defense Secretary Calls Military Leaders to Urgent Meeting in Virginia | Military News

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has summoned senior U.S. military officers to a rare meeting next Tuesday in Virginia, as confirmed by Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell. The purpose of the meeting remains unclear, leading to speculation within military ranks, with some officials indicating that previously set schedules for around 800 generals and admirals have been disrupted.

Hegseth’s unexpected summons has raised questions regarding its agenda and necessity. At an Oval Office signing ceremony, President Trump expressed optimism about the meeting, considering it a positive initiative for fostering relationships among military leaders. He downplayed concerns that the meeting could detract from critical posts essential for national security, referring to the attention it has garnered as unwarranted.

Vice President JD Vance also defended the meeting, asserting it was not unusual for high-ranking military officials to convene with the Secretary of War. Since taking office for a second term, Trump and Hegseth have initiated significant changes within the Department of Defense, including the dismissal of high-ranking military leaders and a push for reductions in the number of top officers. Hegseth has emphasized a focus on increasing military effectiveness and has moved to end diversity initiatives in favor of restoring what he describes as the military’s “warrior ethos.”
