Zelenskyy Denounces Russia’s “Vile and Cowardly” 12-Hour Bombing of Ukraine

Kyiv experienced one of its most intense bombardments since the onset of Russia’s full-scale invasion, resulting in at least four fatalities, including a 12-year-old girl. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attack, which utilized nearly 600 drones and over 40 cruise missiles, labeling it a “vile and cowardly” act. The strikes targeted Kyiv and several other regions, coinciding with the conclusion of a UN general assembly week where former President Donald Trump expressed support for Ukraine.

Zelenskyy urged allies to impose stricter sanctions on Russian oil imports, emphasizing that Moscow’s continued aggression relies on energy revenues. The attack left over 70 individuals injured and caused significant damage to residential areas, with a missile strike severely impacting a street in Kyiv’s Petropavlivska Borshchahivka district.

International response was swift, with UK Defense Secretary John Healey condemning the violence and promising to bolster support for Ukraine. Other leaders, including Finland’s president, also denounced the attacks and called for increased sanctions against Russia. In Poland, military preparedness was heightened in response to the strikes.

Russia, while claiming its attacks were aimed at military facilities, denied involvement in recent drone incursions into neighboring countries. The escalating situation raises concerns about a broader conflict in Europe, as Zelenskyy warned of potential new fronts emerging from Russia’s aggressive stance.
